The concept for “Count-To-Three” is based on Dr. Hill's 35 years of line management experience ranging from "worker bee" to President and CEO of three different organizations, 15 years as a management consultant, nine years of University undergraduate and graduate study including an MBA, attendance at numerous management workshops, reading dozens of management theory books and five years of retirement and reflection.

During Dr. Hill's reflective retirement years he began noticing that things tend to naturally fall into groups of three such as Ready-Aim-Fire; On your mark-Get set- Go, and so on.  He also discovered that his golf game significantly improved when he remained focused on the basics: "Grip, Posture & Alignment".  When he applied this thinking to the general topic of management, it was obvious that management is basically three key activities: Planning, Organizing & Implementing.  At “Count-To-Three” we believe with these basics in place, a manager’s natural intellect, talent, and experience are better equipped to deal with the endless variety of situations modern managers face today.   

Mastery of these skills provide a solid foundation for the mastery of other aspects of management.  On the flip side, if you don’t master these skills, your management career will be an exercise in frustration.

There are volumes & volumes of management theory published.  Unfortunately the meat is often hidden in the volume.  Count-To-Three cuts through these volumes and focuses on making sure the vital factors are in place and effective:  namely, the top three critical factors in each management category.  Thus, the top priority items tend to get done first.  We believe it is easier to stay focused on three items at a time rather than a dozen.  We use the concept of “3” in outlining our programs; i.e. once we have identified the critical “3” we can then identify the second level critical “3” and so on.  By using this approach, managers keep the vital factors on track while dealing with trivial many.
